China’s Liang fined for tournament outburst
CHINA’S Liang Wenbo has been fined 8,000 pounds (US$12,800) after admitting bringing the game into disrepute, the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association announced on Wednesday.
The fine relates to an incident during the Paul Hunter Classic in Fuerth, Germany, in August when Liang verbally abused the match referee and conceded his last-16 contest with Mark Selby. “The WPBSA Disciplinary Committee consider that the behavior of Liang Wenbo was unacceptable and is damaging to the sport and its reputation,” the WPBSA said in a statement. Liang was also ordered to pay 500 pounds toward the costs of the hearing.
