Brem captures GS crown

EVA-MARIA Brem clinched the final crystal globe of the season at the World Cup finals in St Moritz, Switzerland, yesterday, edging Viktoria Rebensburg by just two points for the women’s giant slalom title.

The Austrian was fastest on the first run with Rebensburg back in eighth position, but the German specialist produced a storming second leg to charge up into the lead. Brem was left needing to stay in the top five to win the title and she just managed that with a fourth-place finish. Rebensburg won in a total time of 2 minutes 26.15 seconds, with France’s Taina Barioz second at 00.46 and overall World Cup winner Lara Gut third at 00.76. Mikaela Shiffrin of the United States crashed on the opening run.
