Shiffrin dominates in slalom win

AMERICAN teenager Mikaela Shiffrin won a women’s World Cup slalom in dominating style yesterday for her 11th career victory.

The Olympic champion posted the fastest time in both runs and finished in an aggregate 1 minute, 43.39 seconds at the Kuehtai resort in Austria.

Second-place Sarka Strachova of the Czech Republic was 0.80 behind, and Wendy Holdener of Switzerland came third, trailing by 0.92. The rest of the field was more than a second off Shiffrin’s winning time.

It was Shiffrin’s second victory of the season, after winning the giant slalom at Soelden, Austria, in October, and keeps her in touch with overall leader Tina Maze of Slovenia, who placed sixth yesterday, and Austrian Anna Fenninger who is second.

The 19-year-old also finished third in the giant slalom at Kuehtai on Sunday, behind maiden World Cup winner Sara Hector of Sweden and Fenninger.
