Takahashi out injured
Japanese skater Daisuke Takahashi will sit out the figure skating world championships because of an injured right knee. The 27-year-old Takahashi, who finished sixth at the recently-concluded Sochi Olympics, has joint inflammation in his knee. He will be replaced by Takahiko Kozuka, the Japan Skating Federation announced yesterday. Olympic gold medalist Yuzuru Hanyu and Tatsuki Machida will also skate for the host nation at the March 26-30 world championships in Saitama. Mao Asada, Akiko Suzuki and Kanako Murakami will make up the women’s team. Narumi Takahashi and Ryuichi Kihara will represent Japan in pairs while Cathy and Chris Reed will compete in ice dance. Olympic ice dance champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White of the United States have also pulled out of the worlds along with Canadian rivals and runners-up Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir.
