Wales thrash Italy to boost Six Nations title hopes
WALES unleashed a stunning seven-try second half to crush Italy 61-20 at Stadio Olimpico in Rome and made Ireland and England chase it for the Six Nations title yesterday.
The Welsh went into the match tied for the lead with their rivals, but behind front-runner England by 25 on points difference. When they finished shredding the outclassed Italians, the Welsh were on top of the standings, and asking England to beat France by 17 points in the tournament finale. That was before Ireland kicked off against Scotland at Twickenham, and had its own chance to force the issue.
Wales led only 14-13 at halftime, but turned on the turbo-boosters. George North scored his first test hat-trick in a 10-minute span. Italy had two men sin-binned in the half, but still defended poorly and conceded five tries.
