Former All Blacks captain Graham dead at 82

JOHN Graham, who captained the All Blacks in three of his 22 test s and later became president of the New Zealand Rugby Union, has died at age 82.
New Zealand Rugby confirmed Graham died on Wednesday as a result of cancer. Graham was a flanker who made his test debut against Australia in 1958 and toured South Africa in 1960, playing in two test matches. On his return to New Zealand he said: “If we had any conscience and feeling for humanity, we should not have been touring South Africa.” He remained an outspoken opponent of sporting ties with South Africa during the apartheid era. Graham played in every All Blacks test between 1961 and 1964 and captained New Zealand in his last three tests, succeeding Wilson Whineray. He was NZRU president in 2005 and manager of the New Zealand cricket team from 1997 to 1999.
