Xu picks 3rd gold at Rio

CHINA’S Xu Qing claimed his third gold medal of the Rio Paralympics on Saturday by winning the men’s 50m freestyle S6 final. The 23-year-old finished in 28.81 seconds to beat Colombia’s Nelson Crispin Corzo by 0.46 seconds. China’s Jia Hongguang took bronze in 29.87.

Xu, who lost both arms after a car crash when he was six, also secured gold medals in the men’s 50m butterfly S6 and the mixed 4x50m freestyle 20 points.

In cycling, China’s Li Zhangyu clinched his second gold medal in the men’s C1-2-3 1000m time trial. In judo, China’s Yuan Yanping secured her third straight Paralympic judo +70kg title by defeating Uzbekistan’s Khayitjon Alimova.
