Marquez wins German GP for 7th time
MARC Marquez took a bet on tires and won his seventh straight German Grand Prix yesterday.
The MotoGP championship leader, on a Honda, started from pole at the Sachsenring circuit but struggled early in the race, going off on Turn 8. Rain had hit the track and it started as a wet race. But the surface started drying and Marquez went to the pits to switch to slicks on the 17th of 30 laps. The Spaniard then blazed to the lead with six laps left and never relinquished it. Briton Cal Crutchlow was second on a Honda, 9.85 seconds behind, with Andrea Dovizioso of Italy third on a Ducati. Defending world champion Jorge Lorenzo of Spain finished 15th on his Yamaha, with Italian teammate Valentino Rossi ending eighth. Marquez rose to 170 points overall, with Lorenzo now lagging in second on 122 points and Rossi third on 111 points.
