Toronto lures Lamoriello
LOU Lamoriello was hired on Thursday as the new general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, ending an almost three decade stint with the New Jersey Devils, the National Hockey League teams announced.
Lamoriello, 72, resigned as president of the Devils and was introduced later on Thursday as the Maple Leafs general manager. His new task is to turn around one of the league’s Original Six franchises. Toronto hasn’t won a Stanley Cup since 1967. The Devils won three Stanley Cup titles during Lamoriello’s 28 years there, but they missed the playoffs the last three years and four times in the past five seasons.
