Team Shanghai gets an ice hockey lesson in front of home crowd

TEAM World whipped Team Shanghai 9-3 at the 2017 Hockey Night at Pudong’s Feiyang Skating Center in Shanghai on Monday.

The center was hosting the annual ice hockey event for the fifth year. Team Shanghai comprised of current and retired Chinese national team players. The opponent team had players from six countries including powerhouses Sweden, Canada and the US.

“We rarely get chances to train together throughout the year,” said Team Shanghai member Li Guoyang. “If you can overlook the result, the main purpose was to promote the game of ice hockey in China.”

Hockey Night used to attract more foreign spectators than locals in the first few years. It was usually Team Canada taking on Team World with some Chinese playing for Team World. This year, however, more Chinese players were involved, and about 70 percent of the spectators were locals.

Young members of Feiyang Skating Center showed off their skating and figure skating skills during the break.
