CONNIE Chen took the opening-round lead at the Xiamen Open International in China’s Fujian Province yesterday when the South African shot a birdie four on her final hole for a 4-under 68 and a one-shot lead at the event co-sponsored by the China LPGA Tour and the Ladies European Tour.
Australian Nikki Garrett, American Beth Allen, Finland’s Noora Tamminen and England’s Liz Young were one shot off the pace after rounds of 69. Chen Liqing was the top Chinese player, a shot further back at 70.
