NZ beats Bangladesh by 77 runs to win 1st ODI

CAREER-BEST innings by Tom Latham and Colin Munro and a valuable bowling cameo by allrounder James Neesham propelled New Zealand to a 77-run win over Bangladesh in the first one-day international yesterday and a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Latham batted 47.3 overs for 137, beating his previous-best score and his only other century in ODIs of 110, while Munro scored 87 off 61 balls to eclipse his best of 85, also against Bangladesh, in 2013. The fifth-wicket 158-run stand between the pair lifted New Zealand to 341-7 after it won the toss in Christchurch, beating by three runs its previous best ODI score against Bangladesh. Neesham then took 3-36 as Bangladesh finished at 264-9.
