INDIA beat England by eight wickets in the third test to go 2-0 up in the five-match series at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium yesterday.

Chasing a modest 103 for victory in Mohali, India eased to the target with more than a day to spare, losing the wickets of opener Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara. Parthiv Patel top-scored for the hosts with a rapid unbeaten 67. Earlier, England was bowled out for 236 in its second innings with Joe Root leading the way with a defiant 78. Left-hander Ravinder Jadeja scored a career-best 90 in India’s 417-run first innings total before finishing with a match haul of four wickets to be named man-of-the-match. India won the second test in Visakhapatnam by 246 runs. The first test in Rajkot was drawn. Mumbai hosts the fourth test from December 8.
