Vijender to miss Asiad
INDIAN boxer Vijender Singh will not defend his middleweight title at next month’s Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, because of injury.
Vijender, who sustained a ligament injury to his left hand during the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, said doctors had advised him against participating in next week’s trials.
The 28-year-old, who was the first Indian boxer to win a medal at the Olympics with a bronze at the 2008 Beijing Games, says “there has been some bleeding”. Vijender also won medals in two other Commonwealth Games — silver in Melbourne in 2006 and bronze in New Delhi in 2010.
