US women claim crown

THE United States claimed its ninth women’s world basketball title on Sunday with a 77-64 win over European champion Spain in Istanbul.
Maya Moore grabbed 18 points and Lindsay Whalen added 12 as the US added the world crown to its five Olympic titles. Australia claimed third place with a 74-44 win over Turkey. Canada topped China 61-53 to finish fifth.
