Thurmond dies at 74

NATE Thurmond, a Basketball Hall of Fame inductee considered one of the greatest centers ever to play in the NBA, died on Saturday at age 74, his former team the Golden State Warriors said in a statement. Thurmond died in San Francisco after a short battle with leukemia, the team said. The seven-time National Basketball Association all-star spent his first 11 seasons, starting in 1963, with the Warriors. He also played for the Chicago Bulls and the Cleveland Cavaliers, averaging 15 points and 15 rebounds a game during his career and was inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame in 1985.
