Russia tops Slovenia to claim Cup

RUSSIA captured 2014 Stankovic Continental Cup in Luoyang, central China’s Henan Province, last night, rallying to beat Slovenia in the final by the slenderest of margins, 73-72.
The Russians got off to a slow start and trailed 28-33 going into half-time but then turned it around by taking the next two quarters 24-22 and 21-17 for the one-point victory.
Earlier, China finished third following a 74-58 rout of Angola, the other nation in the four-team tournament.
China led by as many as 20 points with 3:53 remaining, a comfortable lead enough to seal the win.
Zhao Tailong finished with a game-high 18 points.
“We had a wonderful start, but the opponents posed some problems in the second period, which was a good opportunity for us to make adjustments. We’ve learned a lot through these 10 games (Sino-European Basketball Championship and Stankovic Continental Cup),” China’s head coach Gong Luming said.
