Cousins hurt in training
USA Basketball got another injury scare on Thursday, but said Sacramento center DeMarcus Cousins suffered only a minor knee injury colliding with a teammate.
Cousins banged his right knee when he tangled with Anthony Davis as they battled for a loose ball under the basket. It was the first Team USA practice since Indiana Pacers star Paul George suffered a compound fracture of his lower right leg in a practice game in preparation for the Basketball World Cup on August 1. George, who required surgery, could miss all of the 2014-15 NBA season.
Fortunately, an MRI exam showed “no structural damage” to Cousins’s knee, USA Basketball said in a statement.
Although Cousins is listed as “day-to-day,” Team USA managing director Jerry Colangelo said Cousins will not play in today’s exhibition game against Brazil.
