53-point Curry makes Warriors history in win

One of the best scorers among current National Basketball Association players surpassed a record set by one of the greatest scorers in league history on Monday.
Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry sank a layup late in the first quarter against the Denver Nuggets in San Francisco to break Wilt Chamberlain’s all-time franchise scoring record. Curry, 33, entered the night needing 19 points to surpass Chamberlain. He ended the first quarter with 21 points and had 30 by halftime. He finished with 53 in the Warriors’ 116-107 win to give him 17,818 career points. Curry, a two-time NBA Most Valuable Player and a star on three Golden State championship teams, is in his 12th pro season, all with the Warriors. Chamberlain scored 17,783 points in six seasons with the Philadelphia/San Francisco Warriors from 1959-65. Chamberlain averaged 41.5 points in his 429 games for the Warriors. Curry is averaging 23.9 points through 745 games.
