Lin retains Asia crown
China’s Lin Dan won the men’s singles final at the Badminton Asia Championships in Wuhan, central China’s Hubei Province, yesterday, defending his title won last year in South Korea and adding another crown to an illustrious career.
Second seed Lin beat compatriot Tian Houwei 21-19, 21-8 in a match that lasted 50 minutes.
Lin, a five-time world champion and twice Olympic gold medalist, racked up his fourth Asian title with the victory.
In the women’s, seventh seed Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand rallied to upset top seed Li Xuerui of China 20-22, 23-21, 21-12 in a match that lasted 76 minutes.
In men’s doubles, Lee Yong-dae and Yoo Yeon-seong of South Korea downed Indonesia’s Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan 18-21, 24-22, 21-19.
In an all-China women’s doubles final, Ma Jin and Tang Yuanting bested Wang Xiaoli and Yu Yang 21-12, 21-12.
And in mixed doubles, the Indonesian pair of Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir beat defending champions Lee Chun Hei and Chau Hoi Wah of China’s Hong Kong 21-16, 21-15.
