New international 10K race unveiled

ORGANIZERS of the Shanghai International Marathon have announced a new running series — the Shanghai International 10K Race — which will debut on November 13 in Putuo District.

A total of 4,500 runners will take part in the 10-kilometer main race, while another 500 will participate in the 2km Family Run. Registration for both races can be completed at www.shang-ma.com or through Shanghai International Marathon’s smartphone application starting from 10am today. The registration will be on a first-come-first-served basis.

The 10K race, scheduled at 7:30am, will start at a Suzhou Creek port near the intersection of Guangfu Road W. and Danba Road. The route covers Daduhe Road, Changfeng Park before finishing at East China Normal University. Runners from Kenya and Ethiopia will be invited to take part in the 10K race and compete for the US$3,000 winner’s prize. The fastest Chinese runner will get 5,000 yuan.

Also, the fastest 300 men and 300 women participants of the 10K race will be given quotas for the 2017 Shanghai International Half Marathon.

“We have introduced the new series to meet increasing demand from local runners,” said Zhou Jin, general manager of Shanghai East Best Lansheng Event Management Co., the main organizer. “The event will stay in Putuo for five years, and will provide the same service standard as the Shanghai International Marathon.”

The entry fee for the 10K race is 100 yuan, while it is 50 yuan per person for the 2K Family Run.
