Jeptoo doping talks

KENYAN marathon runner Rita Jeptoo met with the Athletics Kenya Anti-Doping Commission yesterday to discuss the way forward following her shock positive doping test.

The AK confirmed on Friday that Jeptoo’s ‘A’ sample, taken in a out-of-competition test in Kenya in September, tested positive for the blood-boosting drug EPO, which can massively increase endurance.

Jeptoo, a three-time winner of the Boston marathon and a two-time champion in Chicago, is seen as currently the world’s best female marathoner. Her ‘B’ sample has yet to be tested. A top AK official said they would go through the International Association of Athletics Federations report with Jeptoo, 33, and discuss with her whether or not she would accept or challenge the result.
