Guangzhou holds off Shenzhen as playoff matchups are set

GUANGZHOU Power built a 19-point lead over Shenzhen Naja and then withstood an 18-point fightback to escape with a 47-39 victory on Sunday that decided the matchups for the final weekend of play for the inaugural China Arena Football League.

CAFL headed to Guangzhou, capital of southern Guangdong Province, over the weekend for the fourth stop of CAFL’s debut season. In the other two matches, Qingdao Clippers edged Shanghai Skywalkers 51-49, while Beijing Lions eased past Dalian Dragon Kings 70-25.

Guangzhou’s (2-2) victory ensured that Qingdao (3-1) will meet Beijing (4-0) in the first ever China Bowl, which will take place in Shanghai’s Oriental Sports Center on November 6.

The Clippers hold an advantage over Shanghai by virtue of their head to head victory regardless of the results of next week’s games in Shenzhen. Shanghai will take on Guangzhou for a matchup between the third and fourth seeds, while Shenzhen will play Dalian in a game between the fifth and sixth seeds.
