Broncos, Bills name coaches
THE Denver Broncos appointed Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Vance Joseph as head coach on Wednesday, moving swiftly to fill the vacancy created by Gary Kubiak’s sudden departure over health concerns.
Broncos chief John Elway confirmed Joseph’s appointment on Twitter, posting a photograph of himself alongside the Dolphins coach.
“It’s official. Excited to announce Vance Joseph as head coach of the Denver Broncos,” Elway wrote.
Reports said Joseph has joined the Broncos on a four-year deal.
The 44-year-old takes over from Kubiak, 55, who led Denver to the National Football League Super Bowl last year but failed to make the playoffs with the Broncos this season.
Meanwhile, the Buffalo Bills have hired Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott as their new head coach, NFL.com reported.
McDermott, who turned the Panthers into one of the NFL’s top ranked defenses, takes over from Rex Ryan who was fired with one game remaining in the regular season.
Buffalo finished the season with a 7-9 record, missing the playoffs for the 17th consecutive year.
McDermott has no previous head coaching experience.
