Beijing to kick off CAFL's debut season next month.

CHINA Arena Football League (CAFL) announced the first leg of its match schedules for its debut season.

Beijing will host three matches in two days at the LeSports Center next month. CAFL, China’s first professional American football league, will play in six cities over five weeks starting next month.

Guangzhou Power will take on Qingdao Clippers in the opener on October 1 at 2pm, followed by Dalian Dragon Kings vs Shenzhen Naja at 7pm. Beijing Lions has been drawn against the Shanghai Skywalkers for a key match the next day at 3pm.

The 18,000-seat venue is the home court of local basketball team Beijing Ducks.

According to CAFL founder Marty Judge, Beijing is the perfect city to kick off the tournament given its historical status and modern facilities.

“I’m a sports lover and have practiced a lot of sports myself,” said Judge. “American football has always been my favorite for its emphasis on teamwork and will power. I hope to get more Chinese people, especially the kids involved.”

Judge started promoting American football in China five years ago, and has set up training bases in six Chinese universities to cultivate local players and coaches.

The CAFL finals, also known as the “China Bowl”, will be held in Shanghai on November 5 and 6.
