Nyman wins Val Gardena downhill for 3rd time

AMERICAN racer Steven Nyman won the World Cup downhill on the classic Saslong course in Val Gardena, Italy, for the third time yesterday.

Kjetil Jansrud of Norway, who won the opening two downhills this season, finished second, 0.31 seconds behind. Dominik Paris of Italy was third, 1.15 back. Nyman’s other wins came in 2006 and 2012. He has never won anywhere else, although he entered in solid form following a third-place result in Beaver Creek, Colorado, this month. Jansrud leads the overall standings from Austria’s Marcel Hirscher. The race was originally scheduled for today and was moved up a day amid concerns warm weather would ruin the course.
