International Popular Sports Festival starts

THE 9th China Shanghai International Popular Sports Festival was launched at Jinqiao Biyun International Community over the weekend.

Co-organized by Shanghai Sports Bureau and Shanghai Sports Federation, the festival has played an active role in promoting the development of popular sports and all-in fitness since 2009.

According to organizer Hanfeng Advertising Communication (Shanghai), all the events of the festival will be held in international communities, international schools and some stadiums in Shanghai. A few international featured events will be included into the 2017 Shanghai Amateur Games. Some professional sports organizations like Shanghai Locke Basketball Club and World Sports will also take part in the festival.

During the two month festival, forums will be held to discuss on the future development of popular sports among Chinese and foreign community residents.

Shanghai Sports Bureau officials, modern pentathlon world champion Qian Zhenhua, international school representatives and community sports lovers will share insights at the forums on several topics, such as how to have more foreign friends participate in China's folk sports, how to foster teenagers’ interest in Olympic sports through community sports, etc.

The organizer also promised six international sports carnivals and the first Foreigner Sports Games during the festival, which is estimated to attract some 3,000 Chinese and international families with over 15,000 participants.
