Chip maker posts record profit

TSMC, the world's largest contract chip maker, posted a record quarterly profit that was well above forecasts as it churned out more chips with more advanced technology to meet rising demand for new PCs, phones and other high-tech goods. TSMC said yesterday it earned a net profit of NT$40.3 billion (US$1.3 billion) in April-June versus NT$24.44 billion a year ago.
