Quickie buildings to be razed

ALL illegal structures hastily erected on the future Disneyland site will be razed by the end of this month, officials said yesterday.

Some residents of a local village slated to be seized for Shanghai's Disneyland have quickly been putting up buildings in what many suspect is an attempt to net more money when the land is taken over.

Farmers and firms have been told to demolish illegal construction on their property over the weekend.

Inspections will begin on Monday.

Urban management authorities will carry out compulsory demolition on illegal buildings on that day.

Illegal buildings are defined by their construction time and usage, officials said.

Residents were informed of the requisition notice on September 4.

After that, some land owners and contractors in Zhaohang Village, in Pudong New Area, erected rows of pre-fab storehouse-like buildings on thousands of acres of bare land.

The village government set up a team of 40 officials to investigate the new structures and sent out notices that the illegal buildings will be demolished.

Twenty-two firms have built 8,000-square-meter illegal work sheds and about eight farmers have sealed their balconies or pasted tiles to outside walls in a bid for more compensation, officials estimated.

All these will be razed by the end of this month, officials said.
