MCLAREN-MERCEDES has been in talks with German driver Nick Heidfeld about a place on the Formula One team. Mercedes motor sports chief Norbert Haug says Heidfeld is an experienced and capable driver but that no decision has been made. Heidfeld is out of contract since his BMW team pulled out of the competition.
McLaren has also talked to Formula One champion Jenson Button, who is also out of contract after winning this year's title with Brawn GP. The 2008 champion, Lewis Hamilton, is McLaren's only under-contract driver for next season, with Finn Heikki Kovalainen's contract not renewed.
