NEW Zealand beat Bahrain 1-0 in their Asia/Oceania World Cup qualifier second leg at Westpac Stadium in Wellington today to qualify for the 2010 World Cup finals.

Striker Rory Fallon scored in the final minute of the first half with a header from Leo Bertos's corner and goalkeeper Mark Paston saved a 51st minute penalty from Bahrain's Sayed Adnan to seal their spot in South Africa next year.

The first leg in Manama last month ended 0-0.

Oceania champions New Zealand's only previous World Cup appearance was in Spain in 1982.
