A series of food festivals will tempt tourists with typical tastes of Shanghai over the winter, tourism authorities said yesterday.

Jinshan District will hold two festivals over the next two months, one promoting typical country dishes such as boiled shrimp with Chinese cabbage, or roast pork with dried bean curd, while the other will promote the district's mutton, said the Shanghai Tourism Administration.

Mutton produced in Jinshan's Zhangqiao area is famous for its taste and tenderness, and the meat is often used in winter, officials said.

"We expect people to appreciate farmers' paintings and plum blossom, while enjoying delicious food," said Chen Meihong, deputy director of the administration.

Chongming County and Hongqiao Area will also hold food festivals this winter, officials said.
