Tunnel dug

CITY constructors yesterday moved a step closer to another fast-traffic vehicle tunnel beneath the Huangpu River with the completion of digging on the second of its twin tubes.

The Longyao Road Tunnel, the longest tunnel under the river when it's done, will directly connect downtown Xuhui District and the Pudong New Area by fast-vehicle lanes. City construction authorities plan to have the tunnel open for traffic ahead of the Shanghai World Expo that begins next May.
