POLICE in Changchun City of northeast China's Jilin Province have begun an investigation into a gay prostitution case.
The male prostitutes have Websites with pictures to attract clients. Although they called themselves masseurs, they offered sexual services to male clients, East Asia Business News reported.
Some of the Websites had shut down after being exposed but others were still running, the newspaper said yesterday.
The male prostitutes were found by a private detective who was hired by a woman to investigate her husband's extramarital affairs.
A reporter managed to contact a "masseur" identified as Yu Ning in the name of a client. Yu, 20, hailed from Siping City of Jilin.
He denied being gay and said he just wanted to earn money. He said he only planned to work for about a year and kept it secret from his family and girlfriend.
They usually charge 300 yuan (US$44) to 1,000 yuan for sexual services. They pocket 60 percent while the rest goes to "the boss."
The paper's investigation showed such clubs were also in some other cities. A boss usually controls several Internet clubs.
"Any illegal sexual behavior based on money exchange should be regarded as prostitution," said lawyer Qiu Deming.
Changchun police said they would embark on a severe crackdown against such "pornographic services."
