Free bikes for Nanjing tourists

TOURISTS in Nanjing will soon be able to borrow 10,000 free bicycles to travel around the capital of neighboring Jiangsu Province.

The first batch of 100 bicycles will be available this month, Nanjing-based Modern Express reported today.

At first they will be available to borrow from hotels in the downtown area, with guests showing their room keycards to use them, the report said.

The free bike scheme will cover the whole city gradually, said Nanjing Tourism Bureau. The campaign aims to encourage tourists to use bicycles rather than cars to tour the city, the bureau said.
