CONTINUOUS snowfall forced rescuers to suspend their search yesterday for two Russian tourists missing in an avalanche in southwest China's Sichuan Province.

The tourists had little chance of survival after being buried for a week on the Luotuo Peak of Siguniang Mountain, 5,100 meters above sea level, rescuers said.

The rescue was put off because the new snow caused more avalanches and ice erosion, officials said.

The team made the decision after two Russian survivors requested that rescuers suspend the search. A Russian team will continue the search for the bodies at the site in January when fewer avalanches are expected because the snow will freeze.
