Hungarian climbers missing

A TEAM of five rescue workers yesterday started to search for four Hungarians who went missing while climbing a mountain in Sichuan Province, China News Service reported today.

The four entered the mountain in Shimian County of Ya'an City but officials lost contact with them about a week ago. They were scheduled to return on October 31.

The mountain, which doesn't have an official name, is called Renzhonghai by locals. The highest peak is 6,079 meters above sea level. Climbers from Japan and Korea have climbed it but no one has reached the peak.

Officials said finding the climbers will be hard as people know little about the mountain. It's also the rainy season.

Meanwhile, two Russian tourists are missing after an avalanche in Sichuan on October 28, Xinhua News Agency said yesterday.

Chances of survival are "virtually zero" after being buried for five days. Another two Russian tourists survived the avalanche.
