A MAN has denied a charge of attempted murder by hanging his two-year-old daughter upside down outside an eighth-floor window.

Hu Binjun's lawyer argued in a southwest China court on Monday that the 34-year-old father was hallucinating from taking crystal methamphetamine when he dangled his daughter from the window by one leg for nearly four hours.

Chenghua District People's Court in Chengdu City, capital of Sichuan Province will rule on the case later, Tianfu Morning Post reported yesterday.

Hu told the court he had a fight with his wife, who called police officers to intervene on July 7. He said he dangled his daughter out of the window for no more than 10 minutes and only to deter the officers from entering.

The girl suffered bruises on her arms and legs.

The defendant also presented papers proving his mental disorder issued by the local mental health authority in August.

Prosecutors cited Hu's wife's testimony and witnesses said Hu had suspended his daughter from the window for more than three hours.

They said the certificate of his mental disorder was issued a month after the incident.
