POLICE in southwest China have detained a kindergarten teacher who allegedly pricked her students with a syringe to discipline them.

Twenty of the 37 children in her class had allegedly been pricked, with one boy showing eight stab marks, today's South China City News reported.

Sun Qiqi, 24, of Xihu kindergarten in Yunnan Province's Jianshui County was detained yesterday, police said.

The 20 children had blood tests for HIV on Saturday but the results will take some time, police said.

Sun had not yet obtained her teacher's license, said He Xin, director of Jianshui Education Commission.

The kindergarten, which is still applying for a license to operate, was running illegally, He added.
