THE shop where China's biggest lottery winner bought his ticket is now attracting people from far and wide to try their luck.

A tour group to Anyang City in Henan Province made a special detour yesterday to visit the shop where the 360 million yuan (US$52.7 million) ticket was sold.

"The outlet was not on the schedule, yet the tourists insisted to have a share of the huge luck," the group's guide, surnamed Jia, told yesterday's Henan Business Daily.

The tourists bought at least three lottery tickets each, said owner Chen Guixia.

Officials with Henan Province's China Travel Service said they would consider adding the shop to their itinerary.

Chen said the number of people buying lottery tickets had nearly doubled every day after news of the huge win with many customers coming from neighboring provinces.

The winner's identity has not been revealed but there is speculation that he may have connections with the Anyang Steel factory near the shop.

One man, in a bid for publicity, put up a board in Guangzhou in Guangdong Province that read: "My uncle is the winner and is inviting all his fellow villagers in Guangdong to celebrate in his hometown."
