MEDICAL staff at the Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center and the Children's Hospital of Fudan University yesterday became the first people to have free swine flu vaccinations in the city.

The hospitals are the two designated centers for swine flu patients.

The Shanghai Health Bureau said people receiving shots included doctors, nurses, technicians, security guards and cleaning staff. The bureau said free swine flu shots for high-risk groups would be finished by the end of the year.

Public service staff are next in line for shots.

Yuan Zheng'an, vice director of the Shanghai Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said yesterday that all vaccine was purchased by the Ministry of Health and sent to the city under strict supervision.
