FIVE people were killed and two were injured in an explosion at a restaurant in south China's Guangdong Province yesterday, according to firefighting authorities.

The blast occurred about 5:50am in a kitchen at Jinguan Grand Restaurant in Humen Town of Dongguan City. An electrician and four cooks working at the site died. Two cooks are being treated in hospital. An inquiry found a leak from an oil tank in the kitchen and handling errors by maintenance staff caused the blast, an official said.
