SHANGHAI'S Yangpu District police detained two suspects yesterday for allegedly stabbing a man to death on a street.
The victim, aged 60 and surnamed Gao, was suffering shocking knife wounds when police arrived in Dinghai Road near Boyang Road on Tuesday night. Gao was declared dead on arrival at hospital.
The suspects were caught in Jiading District at 3:30pm yesterday.
There had been a disagreement between Gao and the suspects, police said yesterday, without elaborating.
The tragedy happened about 7pm, according to nearby residents.
"Gao's hands were severely cut, even the muscle were bared," a witness said.
"The stabbing left a wound of more than 20 centimeters long on his back. The wound on his head was so deep you could see his skull."
The suspects, surnamed Lu and Li, allegedly fled the scene after the attack.
Gao was then twitching on the ground but still conscious, witnesses said.
Neighbors said the dispute was over forged money and a prostitute. Police would not confirm this theory.
