THE Chinese mainland resolutely opposed Taiwan's Kaohsiung showing a film about Rebiya Kadeer before and during the city's upcoming film festival, a spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council said yesterday.
"We believe Taiwan compatriots, including citizens of Kaohsiung, can see the truth of this issue, and urge concerned parties of Kaohsiung City not to stir up troubles on cross-strait relations," the spokesman said.
"Some forces in Kaohsiung insist on showing this film that distorts the facts and beautifies the ethnic separatists, which sends a wrong signal on terrorism and violence.
"Rebiya Kadeer is an ethnic separatist, who planned the July 5 riot in Urumqi which killed 197 people and injured more than 1,700."
Taiwan's second-largest city said yesterday the documentary, "The 10 Conditions of Love," would screen four times tomorrow and Wednesday ahead of the annual film festival in Kaohsiung.
