Official held after chemical blast kills 18

POLICE have taken the owner of a warehouse into custody after a chemical blast in Shandong Province killed 18 people yesterday, Xinhua News Agency reported today.

Lin Huaqing was the owner of the logistics distribution center where chemicals exploded about 4pm yesterday as workers were unloading a lacquer-curing agent from a truck in Lanshan District of Linyi City.

Ten were injured in the blast. A total of 26 fire engines and 91 firefighters were sent to the scene to put out the fire caused by the explosion, according to Xinhua.
