ABOUT 61,900 Hong Kong people live in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, the Hong Kong government's planning department said yesterday.

The finding came from the Survey of Hong Kong People Living in Shenzhen.

It was jointly commissioned by the planning department and the Statistics Bureau of the Shenzhen City government last year.

The survey revealed that the most commonly cited reason for taking up residence in Shenzhen was reunion with parents, a spouse or children. Other reasons included a lower cost of living and better living environment.

Among the Hong Kong people who live in Shenzhen, 28,100 are employed and 10,800 are retired, according to the survey.
