LIVE TV broadcasting on the Metro was officially launched yesterday morning.

The Metro operator, Shanghai Shentong Metro Group, said it wants to have the system running at all Metro stations and on some Metro trains after trialing it at some locations for nearly six months.

By the end of this year, all the 1,500 LCD screens at station platforms and 5,700 screens on trains will be connected to the network, which will offer live news program from local TV stations as well as Metro operation information, said the Metro manager.

Currently, all platform screens and some carriage screens are covered by the network.

The screens will also broadcast economic news, weather reports, updates on major local news and live road traffic information.
