A FAULTY signal slowed trains on Metro Line 8 this morning for about 40 minutes during the rush hour, www.xinmin.cn reported.
The problem, starting to affect trains from 8am, was fixed an hour later and trains returned to normal.
Line 8 runs between Shiguang Road station in northeast Shanghai's Yangpu District and Shangnan Road station in southeast city's Pudong New Area via the downtown People's Square station. Yangpu residents use it to travel downtown and to other parts of the city.
This morning's malfunction upset many commuters, the report said.
A woman surnamed Liu told the Website that she took the train from Jiangpu Road station at 8am. The train stopped four to five times between stations, she said.
Another commuter surnamed Qian said the trip to his office usually takes 10 minutes but today took him half an hour.
A similar problem was reported on Metro Line 2 on Saturday.
