WEST Ham United has been bought for an undisclosed sum by CB Holding, a unit of Iceland's bailed out Straumur-Burdaras bank, the Premier League club said yesterday.

Andrew Bernhardt, a senior director at Straumur, will become the club's new non-executive chairman but said there were no plans for an immediate shake-up of the east London club, which finished ninth in the Premier League this season. "We have one of the best young management partnerships in Gianfranco Zola and Steve Clarke and the team has evolved with a great mix of experience and young players coming through from the academy," Bernhardt said.
