9th missing Chinese identified on doomed flight

A SENIOR physics researcher with the Chinese Academy of Sciences has been identified today as the ninth missing Chinese citizen on an Air France flight that crashed in the Atlantic Ocean with 228 people aboard on Monday.

A statement published on the academy's Website confirmed the ninth missing Chinese citizen as Xiao Xiang, associate professor of the academy's Institute of Engineering Thermophysics.

Xiao took Air France flight AF447 from Brazil's Rio de Janeiro after completing a joint research project there with The Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.

He was scheduled to arrive in Paris and take a connecting flight to Beijing, according to the statement.
